چکیده

Recent developments in brushless dc motors and their drives have provided the technology to build electromechanically actuated primary controls. As a result, they have been proposed for ground, aerospace and (recently) marine applications. In this paper, previous architectures in an all-electric aircraft actuation control surface system will be proposed for an all-electric marine system. To overcome some of the possible drawbacks associated with these architectures, and to focus future efforts on reliability and efficiency improvements, the paper proposes a Shaft Spread Electromagnetic Torque Summing technique as an alternative. A previously proposed Fault detection and Fault Isolation system (implementing Monitoring Voting Averaging Devices, MVADs) will also be recommended. Possible threshold setting techniques on the MVADs and the likely influence threshold values have on the overall system performance (with or without failures) will also be described.

Aircraft Energy Management: Finite-time Optimal Control with Dynamic Constraints

Traditional aircraft design has been based on peak power and peak thermal loads. With the introduction of more-electric aircraft, increasing requirements for on-demand highquality power for flight controls and electro-mechanical actuation devices will pose further challenges for energy efficiency and mission capability. This paper examines a new dynamic optimization strategy for energy manageme...

Fault Tolerant Electromechanical Actuators for Aircraft

This thesis reviews the developments in commercial aviation resulting from More Electric Aircraft initiatives. The present level of electromechanical actuation is considered with discussion of the factors affecting more widespread use. Two rather different electromechanical actuators are presented for commercial aircraft; DEAWS electrical flap actuation and ELGEAR nose wheel steering. Both proj...

Robust Sensor Fusion for State Estimation on Agile Electric UAVs

There has been a rapid increase in the use of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs). On UAVs, autopilots are fundamental components that use a variety of sensors to estimate vehicle’s state and perform actuation, ultimately allowing to perform the assigned tasks. Modern UAVs are often being powered by electric motors which provide a number of advantages over internal combustion engines, in terms of w...

Fault-tolerant electric drive for an aircraft nose wheel steering actuator

This study describes the design and testing of a dual-lane electric drive for a prototype, electromechanically actuated, nose wheel steering system for a commercial aircraft. The drive features two independent motor controllers, each operating onehalf of a dual three-phase motor, resulting in an actuator capable of full performance following an electrical fault. An isolated communications link ...

Reliability Analysis of Aircraft Servo-Actuation Systems Using Evidential Networks

Servo-actuation system is one of the key executing subsystems of the flight control system of an aircraft. With the development of fly-by-wire control systems, redundant servo-actuation systems have been extensively applied. A servo-actuation system has a long life and high reliability, which results in the lack of failure information. In the mean time, available data is insufficient and imprec...
